Actually, you’ll have to do the opposite. First deactivate the black & white effect (unmark the checkbox) what will make all of them color. Then, for each photo you want to be B&W you apply an effect called hue/saturation. Just search for it in the effects tab and drag’n’drop the effect in the picture’s layer. Make the saturation -100. Do this for all of them you want to be B&W.

You need to render in the same fps as the project (30) that’s why it looked choppy.

The render time depends on your pc’s specifications. RAM and processor is what make more difference. I can provide a render service to you, just send me an email trough form in my profile page.

+ render it with media encoder (come with ae), after effects isn’t good to render

The only ways to do this would be making 2 renders and joining them or, you could duplicate some scenes but to do this you’d need to know a little bit about after effects.
