Is it possible to fill the character with white colour and set a border let’s say gray? in order to simulate pencil drawed animation?
Let me play around with it and see how that works and looks. I will update with results today or tomorrow.
great! keep me updated
Well, it looks like it’s pretty easy to get this look, but I’m not sure if that’s quite what you’re wanting. The border goes around the entire shape, and doesn’t define the character where, say, the hand is in front of the body. To get this look, don’t add any additional graphics to the character animator comp (the comp where you do all the marker-driven animations). Then put that comp inside another comp. Add the effect->Generate->Fill and make it white. Then add a stroke using layer style.

Then on it’s layer, add the find edges effect. Then add the hue/saturation effect and dial down the saturation to -100%. Then I added a curves effect and raised the left side of the curve up a lot. Then I added a small stroke using layer styles. But there are still places on the legs where the edges aren’t visible.

Gotta go for a few hours. Will see if I can get the image embedding to work when I get back. Can you see the results if you click the link?
Downloaded, thanks for your super fast replies
Trying to embed the pictures again. This is putting the character inside another comp, adding a fill effect with a white fill, and a stroke layer style.
This is putting the character inside another comp, adding a find edges effect, reducing the saturation to -100%, adding a color correct>curves to adjust the lines (though looking at this preview I think I have softened them too much), and adding a stroke layer style. The problem is, where like colors cross (the legs in this pose), and it would be worse with different combinations of outfits. Turning on the vest for the character let the effect find the lines between the arm and the body, but without the contrasting colored vest, there would be no lines when the long sleeved arm is in front of the body.
Looks like a good template How difficult is it to customize the character? I need an Arabic woman, can I cover the hear with a scarf and cover the body with a long dress?
Thank you. The characters can be altered, but the template is not currently set up to make that user-friendly. It would be faster & simpler for me, knowing my way around the template, to add those features for you. I will work on updating the project to include those options.
The project is now updated to include options suitable for an Arabic woman.
(To get this look, use Shirt 1 or 5, Sleeve 2, Coat 0, Hair 6, Pants/Skirt 3, and Scarf On. Colors are set up to be easy to change. )
Thx mate
I appreciate your support
My pleasure. Thanks for purchasing.
hello I just recently purchased your smart character toolkit and I tried to download it on my Mac but I can’t seem to find the charcters. I was wondering why
Thanks for purchasing the project. The characters are drawn inside after effects. So, there are no separate png, ai, Photoshop, etc files of characters. They are right there inside the AE project itself.
Is it simple to add the voices and sync up with characters’ lips?
The lip syncing has two options. One is simple, the other is better. So, you have choices. With the simple option, the lips repeat a generic speech pattern loop. And you can give the character’s mouth commands to toggle it off and on as your character starts and stops talking. The better option is manual lip sync, which is what I did for the preview. I provide tips in the tutorial to help you with it. It is manual, but it really isn’t hard. And the way the project is laid out, it’s easy to change parts of lips syncing without messing up what comes before and after your edits. You can even switch between the simple speech loop and the manual lip syncing. So, if you character is zoomed in, you can have a more precise lip syncing, but when you character is zoomed out, you could choose the easier option.
Again Great Work! Thank you for updating talking on phone. keep up the great work.
Thank you. And you are most welcome! Good luck with your project! If possible, I’d love to see a link to your finished work.
Sure Let me know which email to send it to once done.
Great! I’ll be looking forward to it. You can send it via my profile page or reply to our email thread from before.
Great work! Would be nice if the character could walk to the left and or right. Are you planing to create more like this with more features. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!! I am definitely considering adding a walk feature, either to this template or, more likely, a new one that has more rotation abilities. At the moment I am working on adding the ability for the characters to talk on a mobile phone to this template.
Hello MMIndy,
We purchased your template and we have some problems with the shapeness of the image when we want to zoom on the face of the characters. As they are vectors, they are supposed to stay sharp when we change their scale, but it don’t. Do you have any idea where the problem might be? Thank you.

Hello,
We are thinking of buying your project, but we have some doubts:
- We believe the animations are preset already made but, can we make new animations if we don’t have the preset made?
- How are the characters made? Are they AI projects? We like your characters, but we want to use another type of character and we want to draw them. If we had your characters AI files, we could just replace layers to update them in AE.
Thank you!
The animations are triggered by marker comments, which, for most body part animations, uses time remapping to access the desired animation. You definitely can make new animations, just follow my methodology of putting the animation for a body part in the appropriate precomp, and also identify it properly so that the expressions can find the time that animation takes place. For the animations I have pre-made, I have keyframed going directly from each state to each other (so 13 commands trigger 169 different animations). If I were to add a 14th command option, for consistency, I would create 27 new animations (going into and out of each of the other 13 and then another one holding on the new 14th command.) BUT if you know you aren’t going to use all those options, you can just make the ones you will use.
As for the characters, they are all drawn inside AE, and aren’t AI files. There are lots of layers to them, and some of them are animated by keyframing the shape layers (such as the eyes for different moods, the clothing as the torso rotates, the shoes as the foot pivots, the woman’s skirt for most all lower body animations.) Changing the hair, face shape, pants, arms wouldn’t be too hard. Changing the shoes or the torso would be a small amount of work. Changing the eyes or skirt would be much more involved.
I am also happy to provide assistance with questions, and can work as a freelancer, too.
Thank you MMIndy! All very clear!
Great!
Can we make character to in its side pose, In sample video character looking at the front only but what to do if we need to show them working on side pose.
The characters are designed to face front like a spokesperson. Their torsos and heads have options to angle left or right slightly, but they are not set up to turn sideways.
Hola muy buen trabajo te felicito, quisiera saber si esta animación me permite cambiar la mujer por el hombre para que haga el papel principal?
Thank you! The preview video is just an example of the type of things you can do. The man and woman are ready to animate however you’d like.
El demo es solamente un ejemplo del tipo de cosas que puedes hacer. El hombre y la mujer son preparados animar en la manera en que quieres.
Nice Animation…& Technical colitis…!
Thank you.
Hello, it seems to be awesome. Could you explain the notice “This item may not be property released” at the right of this page?
It’s a standard notice envato puts on projects when the project contains real world items, like mobile devices, cars and buildings. See more here: https://videohive.net/licenses/faq#property-release-a
I drew everything myself, using a variety of sources for inspiration. Nothing was directly copied or traced or intended to be a specific building or brand.
Hi, Can you send me the tutorial video in order to see how easy it’s to edit ?
The included help file is a document with images. Let me see what I can do w/r/t a video tutorial.
Hopefully this will help: https://youtu.be/tqudCliDVCI
