I want to duplicate certain scenes, but copy and paste changes the original slide. How can I create a new one?,

You need to UnShy all layers in composition of which you want to make a copy, then make a copy of composition itself in Project Panel, as also make a copy of every composition in the composition of which you making copy. And then just simply replace all scene using Alt key on keyboard and dragging new compositions on top of old ones.
