I’m new to this – having a really hard time understanding tutorial – is there a video tutorial available?

The only thing you need to pay really good attention to in the tutorial is the “Masking” part. Unfortunately there’s no automatic option in after effects for that so you will have to draw your own masks, and then copy-paste them to all of the layers that contain “saber” effect. There are also comments highlighting these layers in the project.
